MOVING CHURCHILL #4: Martin Gilbert
On December 12, 1986, Martin Gilbert came to Chartwell Booksellers for the first time. Winston Churchill’s official biographer celebrated with us publication of Road to Victory: 1941-1945, the seventh volume in what would ultimately be his 8-volume official Churchill biography. (You can hear Sir Martin’s widow, Esther, Lady Gilbert, read a passage from Road to Victory as part of our 40th Readings at Chartwell Booksellers series: HERE.)
Martin Gilbert became a revered friend of Chartwell Booksellers, returning many times to celebrate many of his new books. Over the next weeks, we will endeavor to share in our impending-move Sale a variety of those works that were debuted here.

Just for the record.)
Move #4
ADMIRALTY HOUSE
Appointed First Lord of the Admiralty in 1913, Winston Churchill was obliged to move with his family into Admiralty House, the magnificent 18th-century official residence in Whitehall. Churchill loved the grandeur and was delighted to move. Clementine was not.
More to come.
With our thanks and best wishes,
