JOIN US FOR OUR READING OF “THE RIVER WAR”

It’s wonderful to be reminded what an extraordinary book THE RIVER WAR is. That is what the just-published unabridged edition has restored to us. The only thing left to do with a book this good is read it aloud.

On  Monday evening, October 11, we remotely presented actor Daniel Gerroll  on our website and YouTube channel reading selections from Winston Churchill’s THE RIVER WAR, concentrating on cuts from the original First Edition that had not been read in over 120 years. Following Mr. Gerroll’s reading, we had a conversation with James Muller, editor of the new unabridged edition, whose hard work has returned the RIVER WAR to Winton Churchill’s original vision of it.

DANIEL GERROLL was born in London and has been for many years an honored actor in the West End and here on Broadway, and Off-Broadway. He won the Theatre World Award for THE SLAB BOYs and KNUCKLE, the Outer Critics Circle Award for TRANSLATIONS and the Village Voice’s Obie Award for Sustained Excellence of Performance.  His Broadway credits include PLENTY, THE HOMECOMING and ENCHANTED APRIL. You know him in the movies from CHARIOTS OF FIRE, 84 CHARING CROSS ROAD, BIG BUSINESS; on television from SEINFELD, CHEERS, SEX IN THE CITY, LAW AND ORDER. And right here at Chartwell Booksellers, way back in 1989, Mr. Gerroll read from newly reissued editions of THE STORY OF THE MALAKAND FIELD FORCE and MY AFRICAN JOURNEY in tandem with, of all people, Alec Baldwin.

You can listen to that reading: HERE.
