WATCH JONATHAN FREEMAN READ “FIVE DAYS IN LONDON,” BY JOHN LUKACS

BOOK #17 IN OUR '40TH READINGS AT CHARTWELL BOOKSELLERS' VIDEO SERIES

Published in 1999, FIVE DAYS IN LONDON: MAY 1940, by historian John Lukacs, remains one of the most dramatic books about Winston Churchill ever written; a brilliant hour-by-hour dissection of Churchill’s first weeks as Prime Minister, including the climactic five-day debate with his War Cabinet whether or not to negotiate with Hitler. The film DARKEST HOUR would not exist without it.

It is Book # 17 in our 40TH READINGS AT CHARTWELL BOOKSELLERS video series, as read by the voice of “Jafar” himself from Disney’s ALADDIN, the marvelous actor, JONATHAN FREEMAN.

JOHN LUKACS (1924-2009) was a Hungarian-born American historian and the author of more than 30 books. An ardent anti-Fascist, Mr. Lukacs believed populism was the greatest threat to democracy; the source of both Nazism and Communism. He viewed Winston Churchill as the greatest statesman of the 20th century, writing about him directly in four other books besides FIVE DAYS IN LONDON; THE DUEL: 10 May–31 July 1940, The Eighty-Day Struggle between Churchill and Hitler; CHURCHILL: VISIONARY, STATESMAN, HISTORIAN; and BLOOD, TOIL, TEARS AND SWEAT: The Dire Warning.

JONATHAN FREEMAN is the only actor ever to reprise onstage in a Broadway production his feature role from a Disney animated film (ALADDIN). He was nominated for a Tony Award in 1994 as Best Featured Actor in a Musical, SHE LOVES ME.
