WATCH EVAN HANDLER READ “CHURCHILL” BY PAUL JOHNSON

BOOK #27 IN OUR '40TH READINGS AT CHARTWELL BOOKSELLERS' VIDEO SERIES

Published in 2009, Paul Johnson’s excellent brief biography of Winston Churchill is regarded by many as the best short biography of them all. Others differ, but none complain — it is superbly written and, like all of Johnson’s writing, erudite and penetrating.

CHURCHILL, by Paul Johnson, is Book #27 in our 40TH READINGS AT CHARTWELL BOOKSELLERS video series, as read by the always riveting: EVAN HANDLER.

PAUL JOHNSON (1928-2023) was an eminent English journalist and historian. He started out writing as a Liberal in the 1950s but, by the Thatcher era, had become one of the Prime Minister’s staunchest supporters, and, in fact, speechwriters. His many books, including A History of the American Peoples and Modern Times, are still widely read. His columns in The Spectator from 1981-2009, were then widely read as well, and argued over.

EVAN HANDLER is best known for playing Harry Goldenblatt on Sex and the City and its current revival spin-off And Just Like That…, as well as the agent Charlie Runkle on Californication. He was a member of the original cast of Six Degrees of Separation in its premiere at Lincoln Center Theater and starred, somewhat notoriously, on Broadway in I Hate Hamlet. He has authored two books, Time On Fire: My Comedy of Terrors, about his brutal, but successful, battle with leukemia, and It’s Only Temporary…The Good News and the Bad News of Being Alive.
