“THE LAST KING OF AMERICA” by Andrew Roberts
Andrew Roberts, author of one of the finest Churchill biographies yet written, and one of the finest Napoleon biographies yet written, has a new book out that is, by all accounts, one of the finest biographies of King George III yet written.
Clocking in at a modest 784 pages, THE LAST KING OF AMERICA: The Misunderstood Reign of George III is a major reassessment of the much ridiculed despot who, as history has long had it, squandered his American colonies and then went mad. Andrew Roberts has constructed a far more nuanced portrait that, in many ways, argues otherwise, deploying his unique gifts as a historian with access to documents newly digitized by the Royal Archives at Windsor Castle.
An old friend of Chartwell Booksellers, Andrew will be in town in early December (see below) and has promised to stop by and sign copies of THE LAST KING OF AMERICA. For a limited time, we are accepting advance orders, which we will ship to you the second week in December.
(We cannot promise actual arrival by Christmas, but we can hope).
With our best wishes for your health and safety.
