An intensely important and intimate Churchillian presentation volume, a First English edition copy of the penultimate volume of his war speeches inscribed and signed in ink on the half-title: “To Jock, from Winston S. Churchill 1946,” (the year of publication).

Sir John Rupert Colville (1915-1987) was Churchill’s Principal Private Secretary during the war and after, right through Churchill’s second stint as Prime Minister. No one was closer to Churchill at work than John Colville, familiarly known as “Jock.”

The ornate bookplate of John Rupert Colville is affixed to the front pastedown. The virtually mint dust jacket has been added.

The resonance of Winston Churchill inscribing this book of speeches from the final year of the war and his final year as PM to the man who had worked beside him every step of the way is quite exceptional. “Victory” indeed.
