Description

Exceedingly rare World War I-era tobacco card, Number 6 of 25 manufactured for Imperial Tobacco Co. of Canada’s ““Notabilities” series. Issued in 1917, well after Churchill’s resignation as First Lord of the Admiralty, the card measures 2 3/8 x 1 3/8 inches and contains a detailed one-paragraph bio printed in blue-black on the verso that identifies Churchill as Major, his rank in the field during his service on the Western Front in 1916: “First Lord of the Admiralty during 1911-1915…He has taken an active part in the present war.”

The caption further states: “Passed For Publication By The Press Bureau, London, 11/1/17.”

The card is in roughened but good condition, with evident wear.
