Collector's Guide

Step by Step is a chilling anthology of Churchill’s prescient newspaper pieces about the rising Nazi threat, written for the Evening Standard and Daily Telegraph, commencing in 1936 with Hitler’s reoccupation of the Rhineland, through the final months before the declaration of war in 1939.

Description

A very good copy in dark blue cloth of a Chinese pirated printing offset printed from the First English Edition, without a dust jacket. Pagination begins on page 5, eliminating the preliminary publication pages (and any mention of the publisher Thornton Butterworth), but matches the First English Edition otherwise.
The cloth is fresh and the gilt spine type bright. The contents are fine and unfoxed, with a very large vintage bookplate on the front free endpaper, along with a discreet ink gift inscription dated “’39.” There is even a folding map tipped-in before the rear free endpaper, as prescribed in the Table of Contents, and a bookseller plate from Modern Book Company of Shanghai pasted onto the rear pastedown (including a typed price of $5.20).
Quite rare, in its way.
