-By Direct Descent from Stanley Baldwin-

1929

(10 3/4 x 14 1/2 inches)

Description

A vivid, oversize candid photograph of Prime Minister Baldwin and his Chancellor of the Exchequer in conversation at the cabinet table near the end of their tempestuous formal association as P.M. and C.E. during the last year of Baldwin’s government. Taken on 15 April 1929, the day Churchill delivered his fifth and final budget to Parliament, the expression of bemused skepticism on Churchill’s face says it all.

The image (10 3/4 x 14 1/2 inches has been laid onto a vintage card mount (14 3/4 x 18 1/4 inches overall) that Baldwin and Churchill have each signed in ink: Stanley Baldwin and Winston Churchill.

This marvelous photograph belonged to Baldwin and the provenance is by direct descent. It is here preserved overmatted in linen and framed brilliantly in gilt (28 x 30 inches overall).
