Description

This original cartoon from the British humor magazine Punch, dated August 27, 1913, is in very good condition. The caption reads:
“Mr. Punch (Inspecting Candidates for the new Department) ‘Selection is invidious where everyone is so eligible; but, all things considered. I shall plump (if I may use the expression without offense) for Haldane.’ [There is talk of our following the lead of Russia and establishing a Ministerial Department of Sport]”
It was drawn by the noted political cartoonist, L. Raven-Hill, who also illustrated STALKY AND CO. for Rudyard Kipling and KIPPS for H.G. Wells.
