Collector's Guide

My Early Life is the only volume of personal memoirs that Churchill ever wrote. It is, arguably, his most entertaining book and an excellent entry point into his writing; a vivacious memoir of youth and wayward school boyhood. Published in the U.S. under the title A Roving Commission, the book has been endlessly re-issued in a variety of editions. True first editions, however, remain quite rare.

Description

A four-volume set of Odhams Press reprints still boxed in their original mailing container, postmarked: 12 April 1949. Odhams Press was a British mail order bookseller that, beginning in 1947, regularly reprinted these four essential Churchill titles in two different bindings with Churchill’s signature in gilt on the covers: “Standard” (bright red cloth, with unstained page edges ), and “Deluxe” (red leatherette with black leather spine labels and red stained page edges).

The books in this set are all Standard edition second printings, in their original dust jackets, here preserved in plastic jacket protectors. Each volume has the same ink gift inscription on the front pastedown. All appear to be unread and are virtually mint.

Rare thus, to say the least.
