Collector's Guide

Marlborough is Winston Churchill’s majestic biography of John Churchill, the first Duke of Marlborough; soldier, statesmen, hard-headed Churchillian ancestor. Initially published in England as a lush four-volume set and then as a somewhat less deluxe six-volume set in America, it was subsequently issued in an unabridged two-volume edition and a single-volume abridgment.

This two-volume edition, first published in 1947 and reprinted many times thereafter, was photo-lithographed from the original First Edition pages, compressed and printed on thinner paper but miraculously left unabridged, including all of the original maps.

Here is a very good set, reprinted in 1963, with price-clipped dust jackets that are darkened with age but otherwise quite handsome. The book and contents are similarly in very good condition, save for a lengthy ink inscription on the front free endpaper of Volume I.

A beautiful way to read Churchill’s magnum biographical opus.
