Collector's Guide
Lord Randolph Churchill was Winston Churchill’s first work of biography and an impassioned two-volume defense of his maligned father’s posthumous reputation. It was subsequently issued in an unabridged one-volume edition and is a bulwark of any Churchill collection.
Description
This visually splendid set is taken from The Major Works of Winston Churchill, a fine leatherbound edition that reprinted twenty-five “major works,” from LORD RANDOLPH CHURCHILL through the HISTORY OF THE ENGLISH-SPEAKING PEOPLES, published by Diner’s Club as a Churchill Centenary commemorative project in 1974. The binding is full maroon norocco, elaborately gilt tooled, with Churchill’s initials engraved on the front board in gilt, all edges gilt, with silk endpapers, a silk ribbon page marker, and a tipped-in frontis photograph of Karsh’s famous “bulldog” portait. The spine of Volume II has faded a bit, else fine.
