Collector's Guide

Lord Randolph Churchill was Winston Churchill’s first work of biography and an impassioned two-volume defense of his maligned father’s posthumous reputation. It was subsequently issued in an unabridged one-volume edition and is a bulwark of any Churchill collection.

Description

This is a very good example of the First American edition set, which was produced in slightly more deluxe fashion than the English edition, with a finer red cloth and gilded top edges.

The red cloth here retains deep, rich color and the gilt titles and tops are bright. The spines are well-rounded, with just a hint of fraying at the spine heads. There are three noticeable surface scratches along the spine edge of Volume I and two faint dents in the upper edge of the front board. The front hinge of Volume I is just beginning to give. The contents of both volumes are otherwise fine, clean and unfoxed.

A truly lovely set.
