Description
Beginning in 1961, the British and American publishers of Winston Churchill’s HISTORY OF THE ENGLISH-SPEAKING PEOPLES each began issuing spin-off volumes that repackaged excerpts from the four-volume set. HEROES OF HISTORY was the third such publication, a fascinating volume of thirteen extracted personality profiles of (what the publisher termed) Churchill’s “favorite characters.” They include Kings Alfred and Harold, William the Conqueror, Henry Plantagenet, Thomas Becket, Richard II, Henry V, Joan of Arc, Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, Washington, Nelson, Wellington, Lincoln, Robert E. Lee and Queen Victoria. A fourteenth chapter is devoted to Churchill himself, also in his own words. The book was intended for younger readers.
This is very good copy of the First American edition, in a price-clipped dust jacket with a hint of dampstaining. The book and contents are fine, similarly touched by faint dampstaining.
