Description

This is the First English edition, without dust jacket, of the initial memoir published by Churchill’s then-just-retired bodyguard, Walter Thompson, before he was summoned back to wartime duty shadowing the PM. Two more memoirs later ensued. This, however, was the only one with a Foreword by his boss:

“Mr. Thompson was, as he says, my faithful, vigilant guardian for more than eight years.”

It is a very rare book, here in very shelfworn condition. The spine is gouged and faded but intact. There is a small vintage bookshop sticker and inkstamp on the front pastedown, the remains of a large removed sticker and red markings on the rear pastedown. The contents are otherwise fine.
