Great Contemporaries comprises twenty-one penetrating profiles of political and literary luminaries. An utter delight to read, beautifully written and brutally opinionated (Hitler comes off just a bit better than George Bernard Shaw), the ensuing “Revised” edition (and most future reprints) added four new profiles: Lord Fisher, Charles Stewart Parnell, Lord Baden-Powell and President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Description
After the war, Odhams Press regularly reprinted four basic Churchill titles (MY EARLY LIFE, THOUGHTS AND ADVENTURES, GREAT CONTEMPORARIES and STEP BY STEP) in two different dust jacketed binding styles: Standard (bright red cloth blocked gilt and black on the face and spine, with unstained page edges), and Deluxe (red leatherette with Churchill’s signature in gilt on the front face, black leather spine labels, and page edges stained red). This is a very good First Edition copy of the Deluxe binding, in a dust jacket that is chipped at the head of the spine, with two inches of loss at the tail. Contents fine. A lovely way to read these works.
