Description

An unusually handsome wartime promotional poster from Canada that reproduces Winston Churchill’s iconic words in the aftermath of Dunkirk delivered in a historic address to Parliament on Tuesday June 4, 1940, headlined here as: “A BRITON’S CREED”:

“We shall go on to the end…We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air…We shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be…We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills….We shall never surrender….”

Produced by the Universal Life Assurance and Annuity Company of Winnipeg, the poster measures 12 x 18 1/2 inches and features Edward Steichen’s jovial portrait of Churchill (”Reproduced by Kind Permission of the Prime Minister”). There are three flattened creases from folding but the poster is otherwise in mint condition, matted and majestically framed (18 1/2 x 24 3/4 inches overall).
