CHURCHILL COMMEMORATIVE CROWN

1965

Item Number: 4009

$50.00

Description

This commemorative crown was only the fourth commemorative coin produced in England’s history and the first ever with the head of a subject placed on the same coin as that of the monarch. It was designed by the artist Oscar Nemon utilizing Winston Churchill’s portrait, as derived from the somewhat controversial bust of Churchill that Nemon had sculpted for Queen Elizabeth II, whose own image appears on the coin’s obverse side. The coin was manufactured from October 11, 1965 until the summer of 1966.
