MOVING CHURCHILL #9: Last Day News
It’s official. Chartwell Booksellers’ last business day at our longtime Park Avenue Plaza location will be this coming June 30.
After that, we will be packing up our books (while continuing to fulfill orders), before carefully extracting our hand-carved oak bookcases, hopefully without mishap. Then we will be moving to… well, we can’t yet confirm the address. Negotiations are ongoing as we speak.
Do come visit us between now and then if you’d like to say goodbye to the lovely space we have called home for 43 unforgettable years here at 55 East 52nd Street. The store’s 43rd Birthday actually fell on April 11. Frankly, we were too busy to notice.
Onwards!

MOVING CHURCHILL
We will continue to share updates weekly.
Plus many more special sale books.
(Winston Churchill moved some 20 times in his adult life. We are also sharing each of these.
One-by-one. Just for the record.)
Move #9
1 DEAN TRENCH STREET & TEMPLETON HOUSE
By the end of World War I, Lullenden had become a financial burden, requiring far more maintenance than the Churchills could afford. They rented a London house briefly at 1 Dean Trench Street, then moved in with Churchill’s cousin Freddie Guest and his wife at Templeton House, Roe Hampton, on the outskirts of London, through the winter and spring of 1919.
More to come.
With our thanks and best wishes,
Chartwell Booksellers
