DAY 10 OF “TWELVETIDE” CATALOGUE HIGHLIGHTS
Talk about a one-of-a-kind item. In these latter days of “Twelvetide,” we share a particularly special highlight from our new 40th Anniversary catalogue .
FRAMED SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH OF
Zurich 1946: “We Must Build A Kind of United States of Europe”
This signed candid photograph, dated in ink: “Winston S. Churchill 1946,” was taken September 19, 1946, en route to the University of Zurich, where Churchill was about to deliver his most famous postwar speech on European unity, advocating for the first time “a United States of Europe.”
The majestically framed photograph is part of an elaborate presentation portfolio of photographs shot that day documenting all of Churchill’s movements in Zurich. Each print is handsomely mounted and page-numbered, comprising 44 pages in all, including this one (numbered 12).
Laid-in is a letter of provenance from the heirs of the original owner, the Town Clerk of Zurich in 1946.
One of a kind.
