Typed paper caption on verso, dated September 1950, reads:
“A London firm has completed an order from Mr. Winston Churchill for two pairs of blue velvet carpet slippers embroidered with scrollwork in gold wire and with his initials in 2 1/4 gold letters on the toes. They cost $14 a pair. The first pair were ordered during the war, and Mr. Churchill wore them with his siren suit. Photo shows: Mr. Churchill’s ornate slippers, which will be sent to him tonight.”
The photograph is in very good condition, virtually mint. The verso is ink-stamped: “Wide World Photos.”
