The attached typed paper caption reads: “Returning from Moscow, Prime Minister Winston Churchill stops over in Cairo for a visit to the front lines of the Egyptian battleground. Clad in his siren suit and wearing a topee, here he is with General Harold Alexander (Left), new Commander-in-Chief in the Middle East, and Gen. Bernard L. Montgomery (Right), new commanding officer of the Eighth Army.’” The verso is ink-stamped: “World Wide Photos” and dated “Monday Aug. 31, 1942.” The photograph is in very good condition but it has faded somewhat and bears light creases near the upper left corner.
