Named for Winston Churchill's legendary home in England's Kent countryside, Chartwell Booksellers has long combined the best of the old and the new. Now celebrating our 30th year as an independent bookstore in the heart of midtown-Manhattan, we are the only standing bookshop in the world devoted to the writings of Sir Winston Churchill.
We also maintain a select, exclusively hardcover stock of newly published general non-fiction and fiction titles, as well as classic literature in hardcover. Our rare book specialties beyond Churchill are wide ranging, including The Military Bookman at Chartwell Booksellers, rare Jazz Books, Motor Books, Literary Collectibles and of out-of-print Photography Books.
We regularly present photography exhibitions in our adjoining gallery, and are pioneers in the exhibiting of important jazz photographers, including William P. Gottlieb, Chuck Stewart and Popsie Randolph, among many others.
For complete details (and many pictures) relating to all aspects of our long history, please visit the Chartwell Archives.
